Why Is Camera Angle Important in Artificial Intelligence Camera Projects? The impact of camera angle, height, distance and lens choice on detection performance in image processing and AI camera projects; recommendations based on scenarios.
The same model, the same camera; different angle. We explained with examples how detection performance is often determined during installation.
One of the factors that affects performance in image processing projects more than the model itself is what the camera sees, from which angle and at what distance.

Angle According to Scenario
| Scenario | Recommended View | To Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| PPE / helmet | Oblique from above, with the person sufficiently large in frame | Directly above or viewed from too far away |
| People counting | From above or perpendicular at the entrance | Side view of doorway, angle overlapping crowd |
| Fall detection | Side or oblique, whole body visible | Areas behind shelves or machines |
| Forklift-pedestrian | Wide angle showing entire passage | Position leaving blind spot out of frame |
| Product counting | Perpendicular to flow | Angle where products overlap |
Distance and Pixel Density
The number of pixels occupied by the object to be detected in the image is critical. For events at person level, 1080p at medium distance is often sufficient, whereas glasses, gloves or small defects require closer framing or higher resolution.
Light and Environment
Backlighting (windows, doors), reflections, steam and dust reduce performance. IR quality should also be checked separately for night conditions.
Therefore, Hype Vision always performs a camera assessment first in every project. For the camera suitability checklist: are existing IP cameras sufficient?

Frequently asked questions
Is it enough to just slightly adjust the existing camera?
Most of the time, yes. A small angle change can significantly improve performance without purchasing a new camera; however, security recording needs should also be considered.
